Sunshine, Sea Breezes… and a Reality Check in Moraira
Our highlight (and humbling moment!) this month was the trip north to the impossibly pretty coastal town of Moraira on 7 June. The promenade cafés were picture‑postcard, the welcome was warm, but the football was, well… brisk. Local sides there still play more “running‑football‑with‑a‑bit‑of‑strolling‑thrown‑in,” and the referee’s whistle stayed worryingly silent when the pace crept above walking speed.
Despite a bright start and tidy goals , we were forced to chase shadows and went down 6‑3. The scoreline stings, yet the day out reminded us why clear, shared rules matter—and why our squad spirit can survive any result. (plus an excellent post‑match food paid for by Esquina for the hard work the guys put in)
Home Comforts & Orange Shirts
Back on familiar turf the following week, we welcomed The Orange Bar Walking Football Club from Vistabella. Their defensive shape tested our patience but produced an entertaining, good‑tempered tie that doubled as a crash course in the finer points of the “one‑foot‑in‑the‑area” rule for our visitors and a lesson for new players at Esquina to walk. A big thanks to Ref Dave for calmly clarifying things more than once!
Fixtures That Weren’t
Unfortunately, game versus Los Marineros (26th June) and The Orange Bar were all scratched when our opponents couldn’t raise full squads. Frustrating, but we’re already talking new dates.
Looking Ahead
June delivered sunburn, sore calves, and a reminder that walking‑football etiquette isn’t universal. July hands us a clean slate and a chance to test ourselves against the unknown quantity of Playa Flamenca and a return game against The Orange Bar Let’s bring the tempo, keep the feet ON the grass, and show why Esquina Park Rangers’ brand of fair‑but‑competitive football is worth the trip—whether it’s five minutes up the road or two hours up the coast.
See you on the pitch!
